How to calibrate the printer to your labels.
  • Turn off the printer. Then press and hold the FEED button and turn the printer back on while still holding down the FEED button. Why does the paper feed continuously after calibrating the printer?
This might be a printer setup or configuration setting problem.

Why does the LED light turn red in the beginning /middle /end of a print job?
  • It is possible that the gap sensor is in the wrong position. Verify that the gap sensor is directly under the printing area on the left side of the label (this is typically 1/4in from the left edge of the label liner).
  • It is possible that the paper has run out. Verify that the printer has a roll labels loaded in the printer.

  • It is possible that the ribbon sensor is not reading the ribbon correctly. To bypass the ribbon sensor, set the printer to Direct Thermal mode:

Power off the printer first then press and hold the FEED button, while turning it back on. The “Ready” and “Status” LEDs will cycle through 6 sequences (READY LED will flash and STATUS LED will remain solid). Watch the “READY” and “STATUS” LED till they both become red. Once the “READY” and “STATUS” LED turn red release the “FEED” button.

The printer will then execute the command and print out that the printer is in Direct Thermal mode.

  • There is one more common reason for getting a red light when printing. If you are using the DJ Tracker software and if the bottom side of your tags have a black line in between each tag, you will get a red light if a setting is not changed.

You will need to calibrate first (check the calibration question for how to calibrate). The next step will be to set the printer to Direct Thermal. In order to do this, after calibrating, turn off the printer. Now hold down the feed button, turn on the printer, keep holding down the feed button and wait till both lights change to a red color. Once both lights are red let go of the feed button. Now you should not get a red light when printing from DJ Tracker.

How do I choose the correct ribbon for my label printing?
Your ribbon must be compatible with your printer make/model and to the tag material you wish to print on.

      General Tips
      • Check your printer specification requirements for ribbon requirements. Including the Maximum Outer Diameter (Max O.D.) and the maximum width that your printer can accept.
      • Check to see if your ribbon ink should be wound to the inside (Coated Side In) or wound to the outside (Coated Side Out).
      • Check the over all width of your tag from left side to right side including the backing. Your ribbon width should always be wider than your tag to protect your printers print head.
      • Check your tag material and printer ribbon to ensure they work well together.
I want to print in colors on my tags. How can I accomplish color printing?
Using an inkjet printer you can print in color on our barbell or square tag shapes. Also if you own a Thermal Transfer Printer such as our ZT1300 you can special order ribbons, in blue, red, green and even gold. Contact your vendor or a DJ Tags Sales representative at 1-888-435-8247, and ask about the JJT series of tags.
